Building an Acquaintance with Different Types of Makeup Brushes

Visitors: 196

Applying make-up on the face is akin to an art and as a result the outcome is largely dependent on the proficiency of the artist in terms of creativity and talent. Another common opinion is that an artist is only as good as his brushes – this is particularly true in case of make-up artists because it is imperative for them to be cognizant of the different makeup brushes. But since this process is nowhere close to rocket science, all that is required to know is which makeup brush should be used in order to achieve impeccable and impressive results.

If you are new to makeup, chances are high that you would be totally overwhelmed while exploring makeup brushes. Something which may not be known is that this segment features a large variety and unless the buyer is exactly aware of his needs, he is likely to end up in deep confusion. Every makeup brush boasts of unique head shape, handle length, size and bristles all of which render it distinct from others and also decide its function. While in terms of handle length brushes can be long, short or travel size, bristles could be either natural or synthetic and vary in terms of texture and density.

Prior to building up your makeup brush collection, a strong recommendation would be to acquire education on the subject and this starts with the knowledge that there are seven basic types of makeup brushes. The first on the list is the foundation brush which enables the user to spread the foundation evenly all over the face and blend it with the natural complexion. Using this brush not just less stressful for the skin but is particularly effective in certain areas of the face like forehead, nose, cheeks and chin. Moreover as compared to our fingers, it is bereft of dirt and oil and hence more hygienic.

Powder is an indispensable part of makeup which is why a powder brush is a must-have. Experts recommend that a makeup brush with natural bristles would be perfect for applying powder although a short and stubby kabuki brush is also effective. Because the correct way of applying powder is in a downward motion, meaning starting from the forehead and moving on to the chin and neck, these makeup brushes are the ones with the largest bulb size, flat surface and round edges. Apart from spreading the powder another function of this brush is to flatten the tiniest of hairs against the skin of the face.

Smaller than a powder brush is the blush brush which is used for applying blush as also bronzer. This makeup brush is either angle-edged or round edged and covers the area of the face below the pupil of the eye, close to the hairline above the ear and cheekbones. Makeup brushes can be used for a number of other tasks as well like applying eyeliner, concealing flaws in the skin or adding extra shine to the lipstick. While the first is achieved by an angle liner brush, the tiny pointed concealer brush effectively covers a blemish or lightens the eye shadow and a flat stiff lipstick brush clearly defines the lips.

Last but not the least in the list of makeup brushes is the eyeshadow brush which is usually small and pointed but can differ in terms of shape, size and angle as well. Not only do they help to line the eyes but are equally handy in shading the eyelids as well provided the user is well versed with the method of application. An eyeshadow makeup brush with a contour is known as a blending brush and its main purpose is to blend and smudge eyeshadows and eyeliners so as to facilitate seamless fading of various shades into each other.
