Coconut oil is rich in lauric acid, known for being antiviral, antibacterial and antifungal. This makes it a beauty tonic for both internal and external use. It will rejuvenate your skin and prevent wrinkles. Used as a moisturiser for healthier, younger skin, it prevents destructive free-radical formation and protects against them. It keeps connective tissues strong and supple and in some cases it might even restore damaged or diseased skin.
The oil is absorbed into your skin and into the cell structure of the connective tissues, limiting the damage excessive sun exposure can cause.
Coconut oil will not only bring temporary relief to your skin, but it will aid in healing and repairing. It will have lasting benefits, unlike most lotions. It can help bring back a youthful appearance. The coconut oil will aid in removing the outer layer of dead skin cells, making your skin smoother. your skin will become more evenly textured with a healthy “shine". And the coconut oil will penetrate into the deeper layers of your skin and strengthen the underlying tissues.
Coconut oil gives a great sheen to your skin and conditions it, which makes it the ideal moisturiser. It may look hard and white when cool, but it will become clear and liquid when you put it on your skin, as it is warmed by your body temperature. When you put it straight on your skin, it is gives a lovely sheen and is the most conditioning oil ever.
Used regularly, it will have anti-ageing benefits, as it moisturises, conditions and shines all in one, preventing thinning and further lines and wrinkles of the skin.
It's great as a lip conditioner, gives them a great gloss, and can be worn under, or over lipstick or on it's as a great clear gloss. It is perfect if you have dry, damaged or aged skin, avoid if you have oily or oily combination skins. Many people are put off by using coconut oil thinking that it will be greasy, but it sinks into the skin and is immediately absorbed. If you still find it oily, massage it into your face, just tissue off the excess, so you will still be left with the conditioning benefits of coconut oil, as it penetrates your skin's deeper layers.
The other great advantage of using coconut oil as a skin moisturiser, is that it is completely natural and safe. As it is used in cooking in the Far East and the Caribbean, it doesn't contain harmful chemicals or petroleum by products.
Coconut oil is great as a hot conditioning treatment for hair, which will make your hair stronger and prevent dry, itchy scalp, if you use it weekly. If you massage it in and bask in the sun, leaving it for several hours, you'll get the maximum benefit. If you are always busy, why not put warm coconut oil onto your hair, put on a shower cap, and continue with your bathing ritual, the steam of your bath or shower, will help absorb the oil into your scalp, then wash off with a mild shampoo.
Rubbing into your nails, especially at the nail bed, preferably last thing at night, will give you stronger, healthier nails. During the day, why not massage some coconut oil onto your nails, tissue off if you prefer, you'll give them a lovely natural sheen, as well as conditioning them!
The most superior form of coconut oil is virgin, organic coconut oil, this is the most superior, light and silky feel. The next most natural form is pure coconut oil, which is solid and white when cold, clear when liquid. Fractionated coconut oil is always liquid because the molecules that make it hard, have been removed. This oil is perfect for people who like a light feel, is quickly absorbed by the skin and is non-greasy. I would recommend trying out different varieties of coconut oil until you find one that suits your skin, lips and hair.
