The eligible patients to this surgery have severe to moderate arthritis in the knee including rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis or post-traumatic arthritis that gives unbearable pain and cause trouble while performing the daily routine work. Some of the conditions are mentioned below:

• Going up stairs, Walking, and bending to get in or out of the chairs is difficult.

• The pain may be severe while resting and also affect sleep.

• Because of the joint degeneration the bones becomes stiff which affects the patient’s range of motion while performing the normal activities and the patient may also limp while walking.

• These symptoms are not cured by non-surgical treatments like; NSAIDs (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs), steroid injections, physical therapy or the use of a walker or cane.

There are different types of surgical procedure that are considered to correct the knee joint disorder. One type is minimally invasive method if your knee joint is not totally damaged than a partial knee replacement would be enough. If the entire joint has been degenerated then a total knee replacement surgery has to be performed to correct the diseased area or injured area. There are two ways to correct the joint disease; minimally invasive and the other is traditional one if the condition of the knee joint is very critical then the traditional method is generally performed or else if the damage is not severe and can be cured by a small surgery then minimally invasive procedure is suggested.

Total Knee Replacement Surgery Recovery:

Total knee replacement surgery is a traditional method of performing a surgery. This surgical method requires a long hospital stay and proper care after the surgery is performed. You need to use support till you are able to walk on your own support. Then after six weeks of total knee replacement surgery you should be able to stop using crutches or walker and resume your normal leisure activities. It may take up at least three months for the swelling and pain to subside. It may also take years for a leg swelling to disappear.

Total Knee Replacement Surgery Risks and Complications:

There are chances that the wound may bleed and make the condition complicated. The staples or the sutures that was used to close the wound may tare of because of pressure or if the stitches are removed after about two weeks. There are chances that the wound may heal slowly or bleeding and complications can occur for several days till it is recovered completely.
