Flax Seed Oil
Flax seed oil is rich in Omega-3 fatty acids. The Omega-3 fatty acids help the body produce anti-inflammatory substance called Prostaglandins Series 1. These are hormone like molecules which reduce inflammation caused by Osteoarthritis and Rheumatoid Arthritis. Because of such properties flax seed is considered a natural arthritis cure.
You must take a tablespoon of the seed at least 3 times daily for effective results. When having breakfast you can mix flax seed into muffins, cereal and bread or add ground flax seeds to orange juice or flavored milk. The ground seeds can be sprinkled onto any meal during lunch or diner.
Alternatively flax seed oil can be used instead or the seeds. You will need to take a teaspoon of oil thrice daily. It can also be mixed with food. The remedy should be followed for a month for curing arthritis.
Epsom salt is a rich source of magnesium. Magnesium regulates the pH level of the body and promotes bone growth. Home remedies which use magnesium reduce the symptoms of arthritis. Mix Epsom salt and lemon juice, 3 tablespoons each, in warm water, about a pint; take a teaspoon of this mixture every morning and night. Alternatively add Epsom salt to your hot bath water, around 3 cups of salt. The magnesium in the salt is absorbed when you soak your body in the hot water. The salt bath also relaxes and soothes stiff muscles and joints.
A beneficial treatment for arthritis using alfalfa seeds is drinking tea brewed from with the seeds. Add the alfalfa seeds to boiling water, a teaspoon for every cup. You will need to take 3 or 4 cups daily for two weeks for effective relief from inflammation. There are also alfalfa capsules available which can be taken regularly.
According to recent studies, cinnamon can provide effective relief from arthritis pain. Before you have breakfast, take a tablespoon of honey mixed with half a spoon cinnamon powder every morning. This mixture must be taken daily for a month. You will notice results in within the first week itself.
Cod Liver Oil
Cod Liver Oil is another great remedy for treating and even preventing arthritis. Damage to the cartilage is one of the major symptoms of osteoarthritis. Taking a small amount of the oil daily slows down the degeneration of cartilage in the body. The oil also contains omega-3 acids which reduce inflammation and joint pain caused by arthritis.
