Successful Cures For Anxiety Attacks

Visitors: 250

There are many different known “cures for anxiety attacks" since anxiety disorders respond so well to various types of treatments. It is important for those people suffering from any form of anxiety to know and understand this, since many try to live life on their own without any type of help. Anxiety disorders respond so well, that most patients who seek help can consider themselves cured eventually. It is even helpful, and encouraging, to know that most treatments can act rather quickly when compared to treatments for other types of disorders.

Most of the time the cure for anxiety attacks comes in the form of medication, Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), or combination of the two. This is not to mention various natural treatments and remedies that more and more physicians are turning to these days. Let us begin with, perhaps, the most effective form of treatment for anxiety attacks - Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy. CBT focuses not only on changing the patient's behavior but also on changing the patient's thinking patterns (cognitions) that may lead to such anxiety attacks. This therapy helps the patient identify causing thoughts and behaviors and work through them to live life without the onset of anxiety attacks. The general time span of such treatment is about ten to twenty weeks.

Medication is also a very effective tool in reaching a lasting cure for anxiety attacks. There is a plethora of anxiety medications available today that patients can rely on to reduce the onset of anxiety attacks. These include anti-anxiety drugs, beta-blockers, and even mild antidepressants. In many cases a doctor will prescribe the medication at the beginning of treatment and wean the patient off the medications as therapy persists, as these medications can become habit-forming. Before you accept a prescription for any medication, always be sure to discuss with your doctor what the possible side-effects are, and if it is the right drug for your particular situation.

While traditionally, physicians used CBT and medication to treat and cure anxiety, many are now turning to age-old natural and herbal treatments to attack the disorders. These may include herbal remedies such as kava kava, St. Johns Wort, and valerian root taken in the form of supplement pills or extracts. Just like with any medication, consult with a physician or nutritionist before engaging in an herbal regimen. Other natural treatments for anxiety include relaxation techniques, hypnotherapy, acupuncture, biofeedback, and aromatherapy.
