Everyone wants to live a long and healthy life as long as possible. There are a multitude of factors that can affect an individual's life expectancies including genetic disorders, obesity, access to health care, poor diet, lack of physical exercise, tobacco smoking, drug use, excessive alcohol use, stress, exposure to pollution, and likelihood of injury among other longevity-limiting factors.

Research indicates a number of alternative ways to literally add years to your life span. For me, quality of life is something much more important than the number of years I get to live in this life. So, for me it’s ‘how to live longer and feel better!

Making the beauty of living a healthy lifestyle when you’re younger, is the increased likelihood of an improved quality of life to go with those extra years later on. Here are 10 ways to live longer:

1. Healthy Diet

You are what you eat. Eating balanced diet & healthy foods can help you to live longer. Key recommendations for healthy diet :

- Eat a balanced diet with plenty of high-fiber foods, such as fruits, vegetables, legumes, whole grains, and nuts. Reduce consumption of high-calorie, nutrient-poor foods and beverages.

- Choose fat-free or low-fat dairy products.

- Limit daily consumption of foods high in saturated fats and cholesterol, such as red meat, shellfish, and egg yolks.

- Eat fish, especially oily fish (such as salmon, trout, and mackerel), at least twice a week. Oily fish is high in omega-3 fatty acids, which help lower the risk of death from heart disease.

- Drink plenty of water. The universal solvent is a most effective weapon against toxins and many other violators. It flushes out your system like nothing else does.

2. Regular exercise

It’s widely recognized that exercise play a big role in overall health and and wellness. Those who exercise regularly have been found to be much more likely to lead healthier lives and live longer than those who do not exercise. Go to the gym every once in a while, or daily. Or take a run around your neighborhood. Even taking your dog for a walk is good. So long as it's routine, about an hour, and is at least moderately active.

3. Limit alcohol consumption

It is often recommended that women should drink no more than one drink per day, and men should have no more than two drinks per day. Drinking one beer per day may offer some health benefits. One beer per day has been associated with a lower risk of cardiovascular. Most importantly, you should keep it to no more than one drink per day because it an drastically increase mortality as well as the incidence of certain debilitating and lethal diseases .

4. Sleep Between 6-8 hours Every Night.

Sleep gives your body a chance to heal and regenerate; having a stable sleeping routine will help your body take care of itself more easily. Try to get roughly 6-8 hours per night.

5. Make good friends

Australian researchers have found that having good friends in our lives can actually help us live longer. In fact, they can do more for life expectancy than having family members around. There are many benefits to having good friendships, including an increased feeling of worth. Friends are also helpful in difficult times, reducing feelings of depression or anxiety, and they may also encourage you to look after your health.

6. Laugh often

As the Bible says in Proverbs, “Laughter works like a medicine". Be sure to get a good laugh to live longer. A study published in the American College of Cardiology found that laughing increased blood flow by more than 20%. A good laugh is like a mini-workout - 100 to 200 laughs are equivalent to ten minutes of jogging or rowing, says US cardiologist, Dr William Fry. One way on how to live longer is to laugh often.

7. Reduce stress

Stress can have a very negative impact on your heart, and other physiology. Learn to cope with stress by trying different relaxation techniques or simply by looking at things differently. Take deep breaths during your most stressful moments.

8. Have Purpose in Life

People who have purpose in life, tends to live longer. Many people over the age of 100 claim a reason behind their life, and suggest that their reason has helped them reach such ages. Some reasons for living can be as practical as providing food for others, or even as abstract as providing inspiration. Get a purpose in your life and this helps you how to live longer.

9. Maintain healthy weight

Avoid obesity in order to live longer. Extra weight is like a ticking time bomb ready to unleash diabetes, heart disease and several types of cancer. if you want to live longer and reduce the possibility of sickness and disease, you need to maintain weight.

10. Stop smoking

People who smoke have been found to be much more likely to lead to the development of smoking-related disease such as lung cancer, heart disease and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. So if you want to live longer, stop smoking.
