Smoking Stinks!

I think I need to qualify this article by first stating that for over fifteen years I happily choked down at least a pack of cigarettes a day. So by anyone's definition, I was most certainly a smoker. And while I knew that I smelled like a cigarette after smoking, I didn't understand the degree to which I truly stank. After walking away from cigarettes forever a little over a year ago, this realization hit me full force the other day.

You see, since I quit, I really don't hang around people who smoke. I simply don't subject myself to the act of smoking any longer. The other day I was in a meeting and the person giving the meeting stopped and gave everyone a cigarette break. The smokers left the room for the obligatory ten minutes and when they returned I was struck by how badly they stank. I kept thinking to myself, “that was me, smelling like a nasty cigarette a year ago. "

I couldn't help but realize the truth of the situation. Yea, smoking might kill you and leave you more out of breath than a four hundred pound man after running the 100-yard dash after simply walking up a flight of stairs, but in reality smoking stinks. Sure, the girls think they can cover it up with the spritz of their passion fruit body spray, but the truth is that they just end up smelling like a passion fruit flavored cigarette.

Smoking just plain stinks, and if you still smoke, you need to do what I did and quit. If for no other reason than because it makes you stink. And this advice is coming from someone who used to smell the exact same way. Just do what I did and start changing the way you think about smoking, and the act of smoking will change. I didn't need patches, pills, gum, or hypnosis; all I had to do was begin being truthful with myself, rather than believing all the lies. Quitting smoking is as hard as you think it will be, it's as simple as that. For me, it wasn't that hard, because I didn't think it would be that hard. You don't want to stink anymore, do you?
