American obesity rates continues to rise. Obese individuals that have a BMI (Body Mass Index) of 40 or higher are continuing to sky rocket. “The proportion of people at the high end of the weight scale continues to increase at a brisk rate despite increased public attention on the risks of obesity and the increased use of drastic weight loss strategies, such as bariatric surgery, " report author Roland Sturm, a RAND economist.
It does not matter the health risks, Americans continue to gorge themselves on fat laden food. Fast food joints are increasing and healthy choices are dissipating. It is easy to place the blame on the individual. But, you do not have to look far to see another advertisment, for your favorite fast food resteraunt.
The price of obesity is causing health care cost in America to soar. The U. S. Government should not close their eyes and wait for the problem to go away. It's an ever growing problem and the blame cannot rest entirely on the individual. Obesity can cause extreme health problems, such as, Type 2 diabetes, heart disease, strokes, sleep apnea, gall bladder disease and fatty liver disease.
All of these diseases are the root cause for escalating U. S. health care costs. Corporations are finding themselves handcuffed. They want to provide insurance for their workers, but the cost of health care is digging into the bottom line. It's found that 64% of Americans are obese and it's a problem that will not go away. It does not help that junk food is always cheaper than healthier food. Go look in the grocery store and compare prices. The unhealthy food is by far cheaper than healthier food.
Americans have a severe eating problem and it needs to be addressed. Obesity costs every American and effects every American. It is cutting into our paychecks, our corporations profit levels, and our economy.
