Primordial sound meditation is a meditation technique that originated in ancient India. Today this authentic meditation technique has been revived and made available for everyone in a format that can be easily learned and practiced. The people who are credited with doing this are Deepak Chopra, M. D. and David Simon, M. D.
Primordial sounds are the unique sounds or vibrations of the natural universe. In meditation, the Primordial sounds used are called mantras. These mantras are chosen on basis of Vedic mathematics which establishes a specific sound or vibration of the universe at the time and place of birth of a person.
The mantra when silently repeated during primordial sound meditation, frees the mind of external distractions thus enabling us to find peace and tranquility within. Quieting the mind in a gentle manner brings out subtle feelings to conscious awareness and the effect soothes our mind, body and soul.
What does primordial sound meditation do to my health?
One of the most instantaneous benefits of primordial sound meditation is deep relaxation. It may not be a cure by itself but it contributes to reducing stress through deep relaxation and a profound state of rest. Stress is cited by doctors as one of the major factors in common illnesses such as depression, anxiety, high blood pressure, cardiac pain, insomnia, diabetes, ulcers, cold, fever, asthma, arthritis, alcoholism, and many others. Regularly reducing stress through meditation allows the mind and body to function with maximum effectiveness and its benefits can have a cascading effect on our general well being.
Will I need to change my lifestyle?
Primordial sound mediation can be learned by people of all ages, education, culture, and religion. Primordial sound meditation does not require specific beliefs, change of lifestyle or behavior. The only adjustment needed is setting aside time to meditate regularly. Other than that, any changes that do occur are a result of meditation.
