I am not a doctor or any other type of health professional. If anything, I could be called a professional patient when it comes to my acne.
After 49 Years of trying every type of acne medication and lifestyle change out there, I have finally hit upon a combination of both strategies that works. This is a summary of the oral and topical medications along with lifestyle changes I have incorporated that have changed my complexion and my outlook on life dramatically.
TOPICAL MEDICATIONS; Every morning I wash my face with either a sulfur based soap. Or a benzoyl peroxide face wash sold by Pro-active, usually on an every other day basis. At night I apply a Retin A product, Tretinoin 0.05% as prescribed. This is a prescription only product, but very effective!
ORAL MEDICATIONS; I take 100 MG of Minocycline everyday as prescribed “prescription only. " I take 250 mcg of Chromium Picolinate “Over the counter supplement" everyday. Chromium Picolinate helps regulate the metabolism and from what I have read, a lack of it can actually cause acne. Diabetics usually take this as a supplement. I also take a multi-vitamin with vitamin D ( as Cholecalciferol ) 200 IU.
I URGE YOU TO DO YOUR OWN RESEARCH AND SPEAK TO YOUR DOCTOR ABOUT ALL OF THESE MEDICATIONS.
LIFESTYLE CHANGES; I wash or change my pillow cases every three days or so. I drink plenty of water and I stay out of the sun.
I know this might seem like a lot to do, but I have tried most of these medications on their own with only partial success. If you have a serious acne problem, as I do, this strategy could work for you. It has been very successful for me!
I hope this information is helpful.
Good luck, David
