The carbohydrates list of foods fall under two basic types. They are either simple or complex carbohydrates. The two basic types can be broken down further into starchy and fibrous, refined and natural and high glycemic and low glycemic.
As with anything in life, there are carbohydrates that can either be beneficial or harmful to your health. Educate yourself and find out the difference between the two. Eating the right type of carbohydrate is very important to maintaining good health. Protect your family by being able to make the right choice for them.
Simple carbohydrates contain fructose (fruit sugar), glucose (blood sugar) and galactose. Simple carbohydrates list of foods are very quickly digested and cause a rapid rise in blood sugar levels.
Eating too much of this type causes high levels of blood sugar and insulin in the body. One thing this promotes is fat to be stored in the cells. High insulin levels also inhibit the breakdown of stored fat. Insulin is not unhealthy.
It’s just that certain complications arise when there is too much in the system as the result of eating too much simple and refined carbohydrate. The crucial rub is this. If you have high sugar and insulin levels, calories are not burned but are stored as fat.
But then again, not all simple carbohydrates are bad. Fructose (found in fruits) is good. Fructose is a naturally occurring simple type of sugar found in fruits. Fruit sugar is considerably healthier than refined sugar.
Fruits also contain large amounts of antioxidants, vitamins, phytochemicals and fiber. Simple carbohydrates list of foods should be eaten in moderation. The dietary balance should come from green fibrous carbohydrates and complex starchy carbohydrates.
