How to lose weight naturally requires following the natural laws of weight loss. In order to look and feel great, it's the only way to go.

And, no matter what anyone tells you, there's no way around the natural law of how to lose weight naturally – it's based on science. To begin with, you must burn more calories than you consume.

Now that's settled, here are seven steps to make it happen for you.

#1 Start from a foundation of happiness. Nobody wins a game when they're unhappy playing it – and the weight management game is no different. Self-acceptance doesn't mean you can't want more.

It's a delicate balance – be grateful for who you are and what you've got and be enthusiastic about the future you're creating.

#2 Make a plan based on what you already know. By now we're all experts on the topic of weight loss. But there's so much conflicting information it gets confusing. So, let's face facts.

Just like managing your time, money or health, weight management requires forethought, organization and planning.

Based on your lifestyle, to burn more calories than you consume, how are you going to manage the details? That includes meal planning, calorie counting and the time and inclination to exercise.

Natural doesn't mean spontaneous. As a matter of fact spontaneous gratification is what gets most of us into trouble.

#3 Choose the healthiest diet possible. Most people want to lose weight because they think looking better will make them feel better.

But the only way to feel better is to manage your thoughts, exercise regularly and eat a healthy diet. There's just no two ways around it.

#4 Find the best way to exercise every day. Exercise doesn't have to be complicated or extreme. It just has to be happening.

Work it out with your schedule. There are great exercise videos, a variety of gyms and walking paths everywhere. Choose a time and method and make it a habit.

#5 Manage your emotions. Emotional eating is a major reason for failure. Whether it's eating calorie dense, addictive foods or just plain eating too many calories, it's generally the result of using food for entertainment or to sooth and stuff down emotions.

Come up with a list of other things you enjoy (besides eating) – activities that support your well being. Begin changing old bad habits to consistently choose healthy enjoyment.

#6 Write down your calories every day. As with any other project, if you can't measure it, you can't manage it. Studies prove the majority of people who lose weight and keep it off watch their calories.

And research also shows that when people estimate the amounts they eat, without writing it down (at least in the beginning), they grossly underestimated how much they're consuming.

#7 Be committed and persistent. Nothing ever gets accomplished without commitment and persistence. The story goes that Thomas Edison had 999 failures before he finally invented the light bulb.
