Depression is a disorder that afflicts millions of people. Because of the sheer numbers involved of those suffering from this malady, it is helpful to identify signs of depression. If you or someone you loved was affected, would you know it?

Unlike ordinary sadness, that comes and goes and is encountered throughout life, depression can cause significantly more distress. People may continue for years, enduring and failing to identify the cause of their suffering, while the condition goes untreated. Depression signs may not be recognized.

Depression is an illness that presents many faces and is experienced differently by each sufferer. Some people would liken it to a black cloud that descends and colors their existence; others would say that they just can’t concentrate or their energy has gone on an extended leave of absence; others feel irritated, for no reason that can be pinpointed. Signs of depression vary from person to person, can be long lasting, and interfere with daily life.

The following description may help you to evaluate this condition. Remember, if you feel down for more than two weeks, and these feelings are impacting on you, you may be clinically depressed. It is important to understand how depression affects you and what may be causing it.

Depression signs: sleep disturbances, sleeping too much or too little; feeling melancholy or sad, appetite changes, eating too much or too little; weight changes, losing pounds or gaining them; difficulty concentrating, slowed thoughts, difficulty making decisions, negative self talk and poor estimation of self, feeling restless, decreased interest in activities formerly enjoyed, thoughts of suicide and death

Research has been ongoing in the battle against depression. Imbalance of certain brain chemicals, along with other factors, can manifest in symptoms of depression. The brain contains billions of nerve cells. These cells are called neurons, which send and receive messages, using brain chemicals called neurotransmitters. These brain chemicals are a factor in emotional well being. When these chemical messages aren’t delivered correctly between brain cells, signs of depression emerge.

Modern treatments range from prescription medications that raise levels of certain neurotransmitters, to talk therapy, to safe and effective natural supplements which provide essential nutrients that correct deficiencies affecting the brain’s delicate balance.

Growing numbers of people are turning to natural remedies. A good quality natural supplement provides key ingredients: amino acids, vitamins, minerals and co-factors, enzymes, herbal extracts, and specialty supplements, designed to correct brain functioning and restore positive mood. Specific ingredients that act to alleviate depression signs are: valerian, for depression, reduction of restlessness and sleep disturbances induced by anxiety; chamomile, for anxiety, insomnia, indigestion and nausea; green tea, with many known benefits including improvement in cognitive functioning; and ginkgo biloba, used to improve concentration and mental clarity. It can been seen from the foregoing how natural remedies provide a safe treatment option, without unwanted side effects.

It is a sad fact that the many people fail to seek help. Treating depression is important, because it affects you, your family, your friends, and your life.

You don’t have to go it alone. Knowing the truth about the signs of depression , you are now equipped to deal with this condition and can be on the road to recovery. Make the right choice. Hope and help are around the corner.
