Every year, millions of people get canker sores . While they aren't as harmful as they are annoying, a doctor's visit isn't really needed to get rid of canker sores. To get rid of them, you CAN get ointments and creams, or you can buy over-the-counter drugs that will help to keep the discomfort under control.

Although many factors contribute to canker sores, here are some of the most common reasons why you get them.

1. Sunshine. People with sensitive skinshould try to avoid the sun from 10 a. m. to 4 p. m. It is between these times that the sun's rays are most powerful. After several hours, sunbathers sometimes get a canker sore. Swimmers are another target for the sun's rays, and canker sores. Be sure to where sunscreen on your face to help keep canker sores away.

2. Acidic foods. Citrus fruits, tomatoes, chocolate, and other tangy foods may aid in the creation of a canker sore. If you discover a pattern forming between the food and your canker sores, try to eat those food less frequently, or make substitutions. I. E. eat your pizza with white sauce instead of tomato sauce.

3. Stress. Canker sores can be yet another biproduct of stress. Do your best to balance your stress by relaxing a bit more. Listen to classical music, keep a journal, anything you like to do. Keeping stress out of your life will not only solve your canker sore problem, but a bunch of other health problems as well.

Canker sores are mobile. They can move and spread to other parts of the mouth. Do not bite, poke, or pop them in hopes of getting rid of the canker sore faster. If you have canker sores, wash it gently with warm water and mild soap. Avoid using the same washcloth on other bodyparts. You may prefer not sharing drinking glasses with another person until a sore has disappeared completely. If a sore persists for more than two weeks, see your doctor, as it may be something other than a canker sore.
