Wrath of the Lich King, World of Warcraft's latest expansion, has been building up momentum months before its release, what with thousands eagerly awaiting its distribution and talking about the information that Blizzard Entertainment has made public or those that just leaked from other sources. But what has caused gamers all over the world to explode in exultation and excitement was the announcement of a new Hero Class, the Death Knights, which can be played once you have a level 55 character. These are different from WoW's first concept of Death Knights, in that they are not Lich lordsa. Known as the Death Knights of the Scourge, they are different from that of the Death Knights of the Old Horde, too because they are not orc or warlock spirits bound in the bodies of the dead Knights of Stormwind. So what are the Death Knights in the Wrath of the Lich King expansion and how did they come into existence? Read on for more details.
The first of the Death Knights of the Scourge was Prince Arthas. In his quest to rid the world of the Scourge, Prince Arthas also lost his humanity. His weakened faith in the Light led him to be easily deceived by the Lich King. In the events of the Frozen Throne, Prince Arthas became one with the Lich King. He then drew other paladins to Northrend, and in their travels, they also became bitter and cynical. With the promise of power and immortality from the Lich King, these renegade paladins became the new Death Knights.
The main difference between the Death Knights of the Scourge and previous Death Knights is that they mostly do not have free will and are subject to the Lich King's commands. However, in the new Wrath of the Lich King expansion, players can choose to break away from the Lich King and ally themselves with the factions they belonged to. This is because the will of the player's Death Knight will be returned to them through a quest that will involve a magnificent battle against the legendary hero and paladin, Tirion Fording. With the help of Tirion, the cleansing power of the blade Ashbringer, and the strength and energy from the Argent Dawn, the will of the Death Knights will be restored to them, giving them the ability to choose again.
Now that you know how the Death Knights of the Scourge came to be, then you should have a finer understanding of your future Death Knight character in the Wrath of the Lich King expansion. It is always nice to know your characters history, because some key elements that would help you in battle might be found there. So while the expansion has not yet been released, research all you can about the Death Knights. It just might improve your game.
