Many people love the combination of seafood and spice in a lip-smacking meal. The Jersey dining scene is littered with many places that offer delectable dishes that make use of some very spicy ingredients. In central Jersey alone, we discover many wonderful restaurants offering creative uses of chilies, curries, coriander and other blends of aromatic fruits and roots. Certain seafood’s are so mild that it is almost mandatory that the chef spice things up because without these additional flavors, they may have no taste at all. In short, seafood and exotic spices can be a match made in heaven as long as the chef understands how best to blend flavors in a way that does not over shadow your primary seafood ingredient.

How can we help you zoom in on the best seafood restaurant in your neighborhood? Allow us to provide a few tips to help you end up with an excellent choice of restaurant to dine in tonight.

  • Restaurant Reviews

A simple search in Google for “seafood restaurant reviews in NJ” should deliver a handful of relevant review websites like Zagats, TripAdvisor, UrbanSpoon and BooRah by Intuit. Consumer generated reviews in these tools generally offer good quality insight from people that have dined at various locations and these platforms do weed out the spam when they recognize it. Often a rating system consolidates these reviews into overall and category scores for food quality, price, service and ambiance.

  • Enthusiasm of Others is Contagious

Word of mouth from friends and family members can be a powerful motivator to frequent a specific restaurant, or not. Ask them about their favorite seafood dishes and where they ate them. The more excited and animated the description is, the more inclined you may be to frequent a particular seafood restaurant.

Shellfish like jumbo shrimp and lobster do well with spicy marinades heavy with peppers and course ground spices. Grilling the meat out of the shell should happen over high heat to sear in the natural flavors and then removed from the flame before charring occurs. Flaky fish fillets on the other hand often do better with a spicy sauce or glaze brushed on the fillet prior to baking. Too much handling will cause the fillet to fall apart. Integrity of the fillet and presentation is difficult with a piece of fish that falls apart.

So, finding a great seafood restaurant in NJ should coincide with your preference in the type seafood you enjoy. The company you choose to dine with is equally important. Choosing a steak and seafood restaurants in central Jersey can be a safe bet if you have a few landlubbers in your party. A search for fancy dining near North Brunswick may probably yield a few Indian and Middle Eastern restaurants and some of these cultures can be very heavy users of coriander and curry. We have even seen several menus for Sunday brunch in Princeton serving grilled octopus and sriracha, a red pepper paste used in many Asian cultures. This same place was voted the best business restaurant that offers seafood in the area by a popular online magazine. Be careful to close the business deal first before ordering this spicy delicacy.
