If you work around Lokhandwala (1/3 of Mumbai works here!) then this review is a must read for you. Remember Café Pico? Yes, the same company has started this food on the go concept for the working class heroes who have very little time to have lunch. Café Pico serves by the concept we called meal in a box. So it is your lunch hour and you want to eat a quick bite but still good enough for lunch, then you can consider Pico Express.
What can you eat?
The menu is short and precise. Your choices include soups, salads, wraps, sandwiches, hot meals and the usual selection of beverages. The food is kept on display for you to get temped by the look of it than by the name. Another thing that makes our heart pink is ‘THEY SERVE BREAKFAST’. But considering that they concentrate mostly on take-away services, they don’t have a kitchen. Pico express is one of the best lunch and dinner restaurant in Andheri west Mumbai. for So, you can’t have Egg Benedict and omelet for breakfast. But none-the-less, they have a nice selection of fruit cakes and croissants.
What we ate?
We went for an early dinner and this is what we had: Greek Salad (Rs. 120), very fresh and the dressing was perfecto! Next up was the Mushroom Lasagne (Rs. 140), now here is something we would like to mention. Last weekend we went for a Sunday brunch at LPQ restaurant in Bandra and ordered for this exact same thing there. We have to say that Pico’s Lasagne was way much better than what LPQ served us. And not to forget the cost! This Mushroon Lasagne was just perfectly flavored and did not draw a hole in our pocket!
We picked up Chicken Katsu Curry (Rs.120) which is a Japanese preparation. The portion for the rice was very impressive and unlike a lot of other box meals that we have tried so far had a generous amount of chicken in it. But taste wise it was not something that we would order the next time we go there.
Sweet tooth can create trouble when at Pico Express as there is a huge selection to pick from. We tried the interesting looking Banoffee Tart (Rs. 75) and Espresso Chocolate Torte (Rs. 75). We would like to describe the Banoffee Tart for you; tart base, crunchy and yet easily breakable, over it a layer of caramel and chocolate. To top this hard base was a HUGE layer of crème and for the dressing was a tad bit of chocolate! The coffee lover’s thing is this Torte they call Espresso Chocolate torte. Not too bitter not too sweet. Honestly we were super stuffed but yet managed to finish an entire portion.
What we liked?
- The portions are good! Especially the desserts. - Nothing on the menu is above Rs.150, making it value for money. - The food is fresh and gets replaced twice in a day. - There is a book shelf where you can swap your read book! So if you plan to pay a visit here, carry one book and get it exchanged. - The decor is bright and place is well lit!
