Again one best restaurant increased the counting of restaurants in Andheri Mumbai. The newly opened China 1 restaurant is mainly Chinese restaurant which is open to menu changes according to the desires of diverse taste buds. China 1 promises a dining experience in the most interesting of surroundings. You can realize the original taste of Chinese cultural food in China 1. Indeed at China 1, the authentic cuisine, the grandeur that surrounds you along with the mood of festivity is enough to make each fine dining experience, a one to remember. They prepare every dish using various cooking techniques.
So if we told you, China 1 is the favored destination of Andheri telly stars and a certain ‘queen of drama’ who has her production house just around the corner, and is seen here every other day, lunching like a forager - then would you still give it a miss?
China 1 becomes, if by its clientele, where you should be seen eating. Because otherwise, there's a dozen of Chinese restaurants in Andheri to choose from in this Andheri square. Go to Mainland China, or China Gate, or a little further down China House, or. oh well - China 1, if the telling is in the name, bagging the numerous no spot. Its not over, explore lot of Chinese restaurants in Andheri.
The China 1 entrance, done in soft white and ash and black is minimal exuding class. The dining area once you step in, can surprise you - not because they have a lot of area to cover, but because its almost empty - should that deter you from continuing, do not be fooled by its stark reality?
We sat at one end of the restaurant, in plush velvet chairs, mirror set on side walls, luminous jewelled bulbs hanging above our head - an evening so quiet, it felt like dining in a hostile territory - we are so used to noise around us, the silence was eerie.
To be less mindful of the hush, we ordered our bourbons and cocktails - look carefully before choosing, as the prices here for a 30ml drink is about the same as you would pay for a ‘quarter’ or even a ‘khamba’ at a liquor store outside the venue.
General Mao Chilli Chicken, with our choice of alcohol, went very well - chicken cooked in spicy red sauce, served with kimchi and pickles - slightly hot on the tongue, but what a way to begin. I realized one thing that, there were so many Chinese restaurants in Andheri even though if we called Andheri a land of China then also its not a big issue.
Konjee Crisy Lamb, ah, crackling stuff, or perhaps refilling our drinks does the trick. The meat is crunchy and flavours pop up once you bite in.
We tried Wok Tossed Duck for mains, and although the meat was quite like chicken, its dark colour and silky skin gave it just enough hint of trying out something new. If you were not told its duck, you'd eat it thinking what's with the chicken, why is it tasting bland?
Black Pepper Crab Meat - oh yes. Clay Pot Rice Vegetable, going with the mains, is sticky rice, absolutely delicious on its own too.
No room for dessert. That tends to be a common gripe at Chinese restaurants in Mumbai . They have the all American style brownie and the French style blueberry cheesecake.
How about a Chinese dessert? They call that a chocolate spring roll - but we chose not to indulge - a hearty meal followed by the idea of a chocolate stuffed spring roll, smudged pictures of classic spring rolls in our tippled heads.
China 1's quiet atmosphere, its service, the quality of food - solid marks. And here's when the check is to be picked up, don't look elsewhere, its your wallet its talking to. This is about only China 1, but you can see various kind of restaurants in Andheri like fast food restaurants , Italian restaurant, Multi cuisine restaurants etc.
