Disposable Paper Cups for Coffee

Visitors: 402

Did you know that there could be far more to your hot drink paper cups than than there seems? A lot of people do not realise that any disposable vessel designed to come into contact with food or beverages has to meet certain requirements. In the example here, the paper coffee cups found throughout coffee chains in the uk, virgin grade material must be used for safety reasons.

At Event Supplies All our Hot Drink Paper Cups are manufactured with food grade board and are sent for testing with PIRA (Printing Industry Research Association) who take the cups apart and test the cups to make sure all the paper board used in their production is suitable for use with food and the product is legal for sale in the EU. Any element of non food grade paper content and the cups will fail and will not be fit for purpose.

Sadly, some manufacturers are compromising on the raw materials then use so they may reduce the cost of the items. This means that not only can the quality of the paper used be much lower, but the cups may also be hiding a dirty secret" in the form of hidden recycled waste.

You might wonder how firms can ‘get away’ with distributing these cups without lawsuits etc? I suspect few of you reading this were aware that this could happen? Most people simply assume that companies will check the quality of the Paper Coffee Cups sold or used by them. If you became ill after a cup of tea would you look suspiciously at the paper cup, or wonder if the milk was off? I bet you would suspect the Paper Coffee Cup last of all.

Next time you have a quick cup of joe, question what you are actually drinking from, not all suppliers / manufactures are as ethically responsible and would be quite happy to sell you a recycled cup with a virgin grade outer wrapping to hide it. In the current climate of cost cutting and discounting, there is a deluge of cheaply produced recycled cups appearing. A lot of these cups seem to be coming from china where manufacturers compete intensely on price. The only reason that firms can get away with this is because of the lack of awareness, perhaps if low grade contaminated paper products were at least questioned then we would have an end to these items making their way into the market.

Wouldn't it be interesting to know what sort of bugs and illness’ have been caused this way?

Event Supplies stock a huge range of quality catering disposable items used throughout professional catering businesses, whether you are organising a large event or small party, Event Supplies service, prices and product range ensure your catering disposable needs are exceeded.
