Just because a drink says “juice" doesn't mean it is healthy. Many juice drinks aren't even juice at all and are full of sugar, just as sodas are. You have to be selective if you want to choose the healthy things for your kids to drink.
There are a lot of reasons why you have to be selective when choosing the right drinks for your kids because many of them lack what their bodies need for proper development through the years. They also don't have the vitamins and nutrients they need; so be picky.
So what are good choices for your child? It's time to get back to basics.
Water. The absolute best beverage for your child to drink is water. Water is essential to the function of every part of the body. Sadly, most children who eat the Western diet are dehydrated much of the time.
Having plenty of fresh water available is one way to make sure your child has the option to drink this healthy liquid. If your child doesn't like the taste of plain water, you can try squeezing some lemon juice or limejuice into the water to give it flavor. Serving water very cold also can make it more favorable for your child.
I suggest you stay away from the flavored bottled water as the ingredients that give it that taste might not be high in sugar but still aren't healthy for your child's body. Tap water is the best if possible.
The preconception of allowing children to drink juices is that they will become overweight; this just isn't true. Even if they drink a lot of juice, studies indicate that they will not become overweight as adults.
Water is always the best alternative but juice is still plenty safe for your child as long as its real juice with real fruit juices and not imitation. Check the labels and make sure of what you are buying. Some juices have less than 2% juice and the rest is pure sugar.
A child need a healthy amount of calcium a day and that is provided in milk. Some kids enjoy drinking milk whereas others you might have to flavor it up with something; even with that, it is far healthier than soda or imitation juices.
