Be Aware of the Free Credit Report Scams

From September 1, 2005, every US citizen has been entitled to obtain a free credit report from three main credit reporting bureaus of America. But still there are cases, where citizens are being robbed off money as to get free report. So, if you want to get a credit report, try to ensure that you are not falling prey into the hands of scammers. Here are few tips which you may follow to save your life as well as your hard-earned money.

1. Don't pay for a free right – When US government has given you the right to obtain free credit report once in every 12 months, who else can charge you money for the same? Does it sound reasonable to pay for something which law entitles you absolutely at free of cost? Therefore, you should be aware of your common rights and freedom. So even if there are hundreds companies offering paid credit report services, you must not believe in their bogus boastings.

2. Do background research – Always try to perform a background research before you head for obtaining a free credit report. Incognizance can invite misery. Sometimes people go to the search engines and jump on the first few pages coming top of the search result, even if those sites are not government authorized. This is wrong. You must do a background research before you complete filling up the form to get a free credit report fast.

3. Read the terms and conditions – If the free credit report provider is a law-abiding company, it will surely have the written rules and regulations up in the website. Go to the policies, terms and conditions pages and check is there any point that sounds fishy. If anything looks unreal, then immediately leave that site. Always keep an eye on what kind of information the company is asking people to provide to get the report.

3. Search the internet – When you have the option to enlighten yourself with latest information, then why not grabbing this opportunity? Browse through the web and you will get enough information which will help you to distinguish original free credit score services and indirectly will save you from being scammed.

4. Don't entertain spam mails offering free report – If you see any message in inbox offering you free credit report with other alluring offers, then mark it spam immediately. Never reply back to those emails with your personal details.
