Simulation is imitation of fabrication or a manufacturing process on a lab scale using software, tools or digital methodology to verify that use of a particular process or a tool. This is how fabricators find out the possibility of success of inducting new method in the processes used in fabrication. This is usually a production of computer model very popular after the introduction of desk tops.

The process is also known as digital manufacturing using technology or methods which have not been tried and tested earlier in the industry. Simulation allows the validation of new process or design which has become essential in current changing trends and high degree of customization required in production. The ongoing research in this field is forever going to change manufacturing process all over the World and reduce experimentation costs. The product development techniques are becoming imperative after globalization and the consequent decentralization of processes.

Using software for computation of processes especially of analysis and statistics is not easy and many establishments are not able to implement it properly. The important information is obtained by fabricators using software simulated models on computers. However the complexities of the software discourage novice manufacturing managers. But in recent times less complex and more user friendly software have transcended the scene making it easier to manufacturing managers to implement and get the desired information before the process is included in the fabrication process. Also there is a greater choice of packages available in the recent times. These can be implemented according to the familiarity of the manufacturing managers.

Simulation is an economical, fast and secure analytic tool in use all over the globe. The fabrication business is constantly changing due to change in trends especially in construction business which is fast experiencing a change. Hence implementation of new technology has become a must for fabrication units all over the globe. The inherent advantage of simulation is obvious. Systems and processes can be tried with actually implementing the process in reality. This way the cost is reduced and any hiccups can be noticed safely especially whence newly introduced element in the process has not been tried before.
