Coming across error at the time of windows startup is quite common and there could actually be numerous reasons responsible for it. However, the most widespread reason leading to error in startup can be summed up as – corruption in master boot record (MBR), boot sector or boot configuration data (BCD) store. Windows inbuilt ‘startup repair’ option is helpful is fixing the error and thus allows proper hard drive accessibility once again.

But, in majority of the cases, ‘startup repair’ fails to resolve the issue, with the system unbootable and thus rendered useless. In such situation use of bootrec. exe tool and backup in is of utmost help in restoring lost data back while sorting out the persisting issue. However, if the above repair and resolution fails, windows 7 recovery application needs to be opted for efficient data restore.

In a particular situation, when attempting to boot Windows 7 system you may come across an error stating that “boot.ini file is corrupt”. To fix the error so received, ‘system recovery options’ dialog box should first of all be opened, following which ‘startup repair’ option is to be selected.

This is likely to repair the corruption existing in the file, but actually not always. So, it might happen that same error related to boot.ini corruption is shown while boot process. Those cases, require use of bootrec. exe tool to boot Windows 7 as usual and allow proper data access. This is done as follows-

Use windows 7 installation CD to boot the system

Press any key to continue when asked for

Select required time, input method, language and currency and after that click next

Select repair option

Choose Windows 7 system and then continue

Open command prompt from ‘system recovery options’ dialog box

Execute bootrec. exe from command prompt and press enter key

Once the above steps have been executed, Windows 7 startup problem gets resolved, if not the damage that has taken place is indeed extreme and hard drive formatting becomes essential to overcome it. Formatting fixes the existing issue but then you will have to restore lost data from updated backup or using windows 7 recovery software. Thorough scanning conducted by the software is competent enough to recover data form windows 7 system in all case of loss, deletion, corruption, formatting etc.
