Most Windows users like to create a password to protect their data and privacy. So everyday there are many people forget their Windows password. What to do if you forget your Windows XP password? Here we show you 3 efficient solutions to help you reset the forgotten Windows XP password and regain access to the locked computer.

Solution 1: Use built-in administrator account

Windows XP has a built-in administrator account. And usually people do not create a password for this account. If you forgot Windows XP password, maybe you can use this account to reset the forgotten password. It is very simple and just 6 steps.

Step 1. Turn on your computer and come to the login interface.

Step 2. Press Ctrl+Alt+Delete twice to pop-up the classic login interface.

Step 3. Type “administrator" in the user name box and then click OK. You will enter Windows XP.

Step 4. Open User Accounts by clicking the Start button, clicking Control Panel and then clicking User Accounts.

Step 5. Selete the locked account and then click Change the password.

Step 6. Type the new password, confirm the new password, and then click Change Password.

Solution 2: Use password reset disk

Windows XP's Control Panel has a function that can create a password reset disk. If you forgot Windows XP password, You can use the password reset disk to reset the password. But you can only create the disk when you remember the password. If you have forgotten your password, you cannot create such a disk. You can reset the forgotten Windows XP password with the password reset disk in 4 simple steps.

Step 1. Insert the password reset disk into your computer and then turn on the computer.

Step 2. Input a wrong password when you attempt to log on Windows XP. It will display a message that the password is incorrect.

Step 3. Click use your password reset disk on the message.

Step 4. Follow the steps in the Password Reset wizard to create a new password.

Now you can log on Windows XP with the new password. If you forget your password again, you can use the same password reset disk. You don't need to make a new one.

Solution 3: Use Windows password recovery tool

Using Windows password recovery tool is the most efficient way to regain access to the locked computer if one forgot Windows XP password. There are lots of Windows password recovery tools available. Here we use Rekeysoft Windows Password Recovery as an example. You can use this software to create a password reset CD or USB, and then use the CD or USB to reset the forgotten password.

Step 1. Download and install Rekeysoft Windows Password Recovery.

Step 2. Run the program and create a password reset CD or USB.

Step 3. Boot the locked computer from the CD or USB.

Step 4. Follow the guide to reset the forgotten password.
