This autumn leaders of mobile industry, Apple and Google, have presented their refined platforms - iOS 5 and Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. Each of these operating systems provides a plenty of truly innovative features thus putting smartphones performance, sharing and interactivity on a new level.
Android has introduced significant improvements into its notification system, which now allows the user to pull new notifications down from the lock screen. Its Recent Apps list lets you view all running apps and switch between them with a single tap. To some extent Apple borrowed Android’s concept that resulted in the appearance of iOS Notification Center.
With new ICS Android interface became even more content-rich and customizable since ICS’s users can set apps and folders for instant access from any of the home screens as well as resize widgets.
Another ICS novelty, a data-control app showing the total data (mobile or Wi-Fi) usage, will definitely please its users as it helps plan your mobile payments or traffic consumption. Furthermore ICS brought some new browser capabilities such as Google Chrome bookmark sync and the ability to save full Web pages for offline reading. Apple’s iOS 5 Safari browser added some enhancements too, including Reading list, which lets you save Web pages and read them later. Yet, unlike ICS, Reading list doesn’t provide offline interception.
iOS 5 introduced a very promising iMessage service, a free texting app, provides seamless exchange of messages across iOS devices users without any carrier charges. In turn, Google presented Android Beam that lets users instantly share apps, contacts, music, and video across two NFC-enabled devices just through touching one Android-powered device to another. Moreover both systems provide tighter social integration with iOS finally integrating with Twitter and Android ICS introducing new Google+ social platform.
Both Apple and Google introduced their high-class camera editing tools, such as red-eye reduction, touch to focus, cropping, and other enhancements bringing exciting photo experience. Though Android voice command services were considerably improved Apple’s Siri turned out to be the most impressive personal voice-control assistant, helping users schedule calendar appointments, set alarms, read and dictate the messages, etc.
Google continues to push the cloud service Android. Its new introduction is Google Music for uploading and streaming tracks. With iOS5 Apple launched iCloud service for wireless content syncing across iOS. iCloud presents an over-air updates system via Wi-Fi that means users don’t need to have their devices tethered to a Mac or PC, an experience already known to Android users.
Both operating systems definitely offer a selection of innovative features. Both android developers and iOS developers work hard to invent something unique. User-friendliness, uniformity and perfect apps selection in addition to smooth performance definitely add value to the iOS 5. On the other hand, speedy and solid ICS delights with its numerous social networks integration and incredible interface customization. At any rate there's no doubt that the mobile market is evolving at an incredible rate nowadays providing us with ever improving experience.
