Therefore, when your laptop battery fails your world comes down crashing. With a few easy tips, however, it is possible to bring your battery back to life without spending loads of money. Also, repairing your laptop battery by yourself can be fun and interesting.

Get to know you laptop battery

Firstly, you need to know what your laptop battery comprises to make the repairing easier. The laptop batteries have cells. Six cell laptop batteries are the most commonly used one. The longer you use your laptop, greater is the cycle of charges it undergoes. Typically, a laptop battery lasts about hundreds and hundreds of charge cycles. There comes a time when the battery is no longer able to hold the charge. This is when you need a replacement.

You can buy a new battery or better repair it at a reduced cost. Given below is a guideline to repair the laptop battery. However, if you have no idea about electronics, giving your battery for service or getting a new one is a better idea.

What you need?

You will need screw drivers, blade or knife, soldering tools and new cells for repairing your laptop battery. You may also require a voltmeter to check whether your old cells are completely power discharged.

Step 1

The first step is draining your laptop battery completely. Leave your laptop switched on and disconnect the charger cable. Once the battery gets drained, switch off your laptop and remove the battery.

Step 2

Once your battery is removed from the laptop, use a knife and screw driver to open the battery case. In case you have not worked on batteries before, this is the time where you take precautions to ensure you do not make things worse.

Step 3

Study the type of battery cells you need to buy. If you have no idea, take the battery to an electronic shop to get the right cell size. Giving the model number printed on the battery pack can also help you get the right cells for your laptop. It is also wise to take a photo of the inside of battery or draw a diagram. This will help you to replace the cells without any hassles. Do not distort the wires in an attempt to remove the battery hastily. You will need patience and a lot of attentiveness to repair the laptop battery.

Step 4

Once you know the type of cells required for your laptop battery, use a voltmeter and check if they are completely discharged. This will prevent any chance of electric shock while removing the cells. Remove the old cells and replace them with new cells. Connect the cells to wires and solder them. Your diagram or photo may come in handy here. When soldering is finished, replace the laptop case. Charge the battery fully before switching on your laptop. Your repaired laptop battery is now ready to use.
