HP Photosmart C3180: A Fully Capable Multifunction Device for Printing, Copying, and Scanning

Visitors: 191

A common drawback of multifunction devices is the compromised functionality of the components that serve each function. For the HP Photosmart C3180, this is undoubtedly not the case. The printing, scanning and copying modules of the C3180 are designed to work like any dedicated device would do. Most notably, the printing component is praised for its high-quality photo prints similar to those dedicated printers solely designed for photo printing.

The secret behind the gorgeous photo prints is HP’s very own Vivera ink. It takes advantage of six-color ink cartridges to deliver vivid and lifelike colors onto every print. With Vivera-compatible cartridges, the thermal inkjet technology used in the C3180 becomes comparable to the more expensive laser-quality prints of laser printers.

For daily needs, the C3180 is also compatible with four-color ink cartridges which makes printing even more economical and faster. For monochrome documents with standard letter-sized paper, maximum printing speed is rated at 22 pages per minute (ppm); for colored documents, it is rated at 20 ppm, which gives one full page every 3 seconds. Maximum printing resolution is rated at 1200 by 1200 dots per inch (dpi) for monochrome and 4800 by 1200 dpi for color. Although standard office paper sizes are only accommodated in the output tray, poster prints are possible through the HP Photosmart Essential software application.

The scanning and copying capabilities of the HP Photosmart C3180 are quite beyond the standards. Interpolated resolutions can reach up to 19200 by 19200 dpi although the optical resolution is only rated at 1200 by 2400 dpi. These maximum resolutions are more than enough for reproducing full-color pictures. For typical office documents containing text, having the C3180 is like having a laser copier right on the same multifunction device. Grayscale and color depths follow the maximum 8-bit and 48-bit standards.

A very important innovation in printing and copying of documents is the automatic paper sensing functionality of the HP Photosmart C3180. Media types such as iron-on transfers, labels, cards, envelopes, transparencies, plain paper, and photo paper are automatically recognized so that the printer can optimize its settings to adapt with the kind of media being fed.

The HP Photosmart C3180 is truly a full-fledged multifunction printer with superb scanning and copying features. The Photosmart Express integrated on the device contains memory card slots for reading mobile storage media such as CompactFlash, Memory Stick, and SD Card among others. With the C3180, high-quality economical printing is achieved with convenience and efficiency.
