Because no MMOG out there puts out more/faster updates/bug fixes/content regularly and as fast as EQ2. Their is tons to do, I mean TONS! I've been lvl 70 for so long now and my quest journal is still packed, I still have lots I want to do, and their are literally thousands of quests. The Live Team events are always fun for me. EQ2 EQ2 has been my favorite MMOG since it came out. Which coming from me, says a lot considering I've played and beta tested many MMOGs and complain a lot about many of them. The game is polished well and the dev team is just awesome, incredibly talented people with good sense of humor. The NPCs in the world are actually alive in there. They are busy doing something or if they are standing their in thought they do recognize you and show emotion. Sometimes they are frustrated, sometimes happy or sad, you go help them to do their quest and make their day.
Keep in mind EQ2 is group based although their are many soloers who play. If you want an alternative to WoW I would say Lord of the Rings Online would be it. Pretty much most people will tell you that. It's a great fun game. I beta tested that game and it was amazing how well the game ran months prior to release. It is a game that Turbine have redeemed themselves with. Turbine was once a company I ripped on a lot. But they are doing awesome now with LotRO.
Right now I am recommending soloers and those who want a new alternative to WoW, LotRO For people who want a more serious, hardcore newer generation MMOG, I am recommending EQ2
One con in the game is that it is too instanced, in the city it almost seems as every ten feet you have to zone. But the devs have heard our crys on this and the new content/expansion is going to have much bigger areas without so much zoning. One thing about the EQ2 dev team is that they do listen and add a lot of requests from the players. I've never seen a game add so many suggestions from players. I know in UO many players have been asking for the same great requests for years and the devs just ignore us, and keep making small updates. EQ2's updates are like a mile long on patchday.
In EQ2 you have the option of doing easier quests but if you want hardcore, believe me you can easily find it. Lots of it. I can't say enough good things about EQ2. If you like to both solo and group in MMOGs, you HAVE TO try EQ2. You cannot go without trying this game if you are an MMOGer.
