Acrylic Adhesives: Features and Uses

Visitors: 171

Acrylic adhesives are the perfect answer to bond multiple objects strongly together. They are essentially made up of methylacrylic polymers and are very strong and efficient. The factors that determine the efficiency of any acrylic adhesive is the highly important and critical features like their cohesion and adhesion properties. Cohesion signifies the ability of the adhesive to stick to itself and adhesion is a measuring tool which shows the ability of the adhesive to stick to other objects.

The most important feature of these adhesives are that they have features to resist sunlight and are also water proof and does not break up due to temperature fluctuations. Cohesion and adhesion are determined by some features like the time taken to cure, the right cure temperature and also the viscosity of the product.

Cure time of an adhesive can be explained as the time taken by an adhesive to set itself and harden into its perfect glue setting when applied on an object. This invariable depends on the cure temperature because the correct temperature provides the correct amount of heat for the adhesive to cure. Therefore, both these functions are inversely proportional to each other. The correct consistency of the adhesive which prevents it from flowing on application can be called as the viscosity.

There are two classifications of adhesives like for example, the temporary acrylic adhesive and the permanent acrylic adhesive. Both these differ from each other in their cohesion, adhesion and their properties of viscosity. Temporary adhesives are found to have low resistance to water and temperature and break up when water or removers are applied on them. But permanent adhesives maintain high levels in all these features and also ably withstand any changes in the environmental conditions.

Acrylic adhesives are got in three forms they are liquid, paste and tape form. Liquid adhesives are commonly used in carpentry work, for decorations and by the designers in the work of upholstery. Tape form is used in fabrics.
