Is logo design an art or science? Before explaining it in detail we must first go through the definition of Logo. A logo is a graphic representation or symbol of a company name, trademark, abbreviation, etc. , often uniquely designed for ready recognition . As the definition itself describes that logo is the design which describes the company. We can imagine the importance of the logo for any particular business or company.

Importance of logo design:- In today’s marketing world the concept of image for both product and an organization has a lot of value. It is very important for the organizations to communicate to the customers what extra are they offering compared to their competitors. A logo can say all about the organization.

Every time anyone look at the logo they can see a value or characteristics of the company. As the logo is everywhere, it is essential for it to have some meaning. There are various factors which determine the effectiveness of the logo a few of them are: • Integrity • Value • Leadership • Innovation Logo design as an Art: Logo design is an art because it requires ample amount of creativity. The logo designer must have the creativity, skills and right knowledge of designing. A logo must have the right color and color combination which only an artist can deliver. The image used must portray the mission statement and value of the company.

Graphics used in the logo design plays an important role in a great logo design. The design must have these factors right: • Graphics. • Color and color combination • Must communicate the mission statement of the company.

Logo design as Science:- Logo design is a science too as it follows a few rules without which a great design might lose its charm. The rules for the logo design are:- • The design must be clear and symmetric. A logo should be well balanced and appeal to the symmetric aesthetics.

This will make sure that the logo appears balanced to the human eye. The factors that affect symmetry are many – color, shape, line density etc • The logo must be able to communicate to the customer. By communication we mean the logo must match which the business.

Company selling software cannot have a logo of a girl in pink dress. As we can see that logo design is an Art as well as Science.
