What is a Tablet? Is it a phone, a laptop, what exactly is it? According to me a tablet is a mixture of a phone and a laptop. You can have apps, games, music and Internet on it like you have on your laptops. It is compact, light, convenient and ultra portable. The modern tablets infact allows you to make calls too like a smartphones. Tablets give you the ease to carry it around all day and has a better battery life than a laptop. However if you are someone who loves playing games or have a lot of official work like making charts and presentations then I suppose you should stick to a laptop.
As far as i can recall Ipad (Apple) was the first tablet to be launched in India and was priced somewhere around Rs. 27,000. That was it, after which India was bombarded with tablets – Samsung Galaxy, Acer, Motorola, Akash and many more. Akash tablets has a story too. Akash was the Android tablet launched in India by our very own government. And you will be surprised to hear the price, it was launched for Rs 2500. It broke all records, it created chaos every where. People had it booked in advance. This was launched last year in October(2011). The government has announced yet another Akash 2, priced at Rs. 4,300.
The Indian market is flooded with tablets. Now you have a choice in operating systems too – Android, Blackberry or Apple. The tablet market is full. Every time you think the company can't do anything more, then you are wrong. I just heard the news that a California based mobile brand, Swipe has launched the first dual SIM based Android tablet, called Swipe Tab All In One. Iball too has announced a Dual Sim tablet. Brand like Micromax, zen. Beetel, Relaince, HCL all have introduced tablets for less than 10k, so that they can reach to us. And the surprising thing is they are successfull in their attempt. In fact Micromax has won the award for selling the highest tablets.
In short technology has taken over us in all forms – smartphones, laptop and tablets. If you were to ask me what i'd prefer personally, i'd say tablet. It is really small and light weighted unlike a laptop. I don't have to flip it open and set it any where, i can just hold it in my palm and start working. It is also one of the best source to pass time. I can watch a movie, or open Facebook or twitter any time. Also it has replaced my morning newspapers thanks to the wonderfull apps available today. If you are planning to buy a tablet then go ahead buy one and make others jealous. But there is one thing, if you want to insert a SIM and also use it as a mobile phone, then i'd say no. It looks awkward holding a huge device against your ear. Do what it is best used to do – surf the net, read mails, download books, games and videos, watch movies, share photos and much more with your tablet!
