A prepaid SIM card is always a good option to stay connected while your traveling abroad, especially when you can't access WiFi hotspots frequently. Most of the domestic carriers are not clear on their offering even on this date. There are silly games, lotteries, etc. , to lure the customers, but nothing substantial.

You can use your smartphone, tablet or fablet while roaming in an international destination. However, deciding on a cheap, price-wise (not quality-wise) is very difficult. Multiple questions bombard in your mind. Should you for an international prepaid SIM card and the bundled voice and data services, or get something pay-as-you-go, or some expensive unlimited voice and data plan?

Sounds tough? It should if you are about to set out just now. Not really tough if you plan 10-15days before you board for abroad. Little planning will make you stay in touch with both - your near and dear, and your budget. Here are some solutions.

Never go with your domestic carriers’ offers. That will always be pocket-pinching. Because any addon for voice and data on your international roaming is very expensive on your domestic carrier. You have to choose a service provider who specializes in international roaming. A little punching of key phrases such as “international roaming SIM" or “Prepaid Global SIM" or “International Prepaid Voice and Data" will fetch you a dozen results. Visit their plans pages. Broadly the plans are divided as per time, talk, text and data. Decide on one as per your usage.

Remember, buy before you fly. Choose an Indian International Prepaid SIM provider. It cuts so much hassles out of travelling experience. You can pay your bills in your currency. Also you can have better problem resolution with your native people.

As for plans, you've a fair idea of talking and texting. Both these activities are under your control, and tariff for them is also almost constant. But you may lose on data for a variety of reasons including your device type, your favorite web resources, your browser type and settings, and the browsing hours. You've optimize on these points as per the bundled service so that you won't run out of the services or you won't end up spending much.

A word of caution - don't resort to streaming audio/video material on the go. Rest others such as plain reading the web or checking your email or text-chat on an instant messenger don't take that much toll on the data expenses. Disable updating the OS and apps on the go. Whenever and wherever you've access to WiFi hotspot do your updating and all that. In addition to that, if you can compromise with text-only browsing you can save a lot on data.

For you international roaming requirement and know about sa, I suggest to read Clay Telecom's Blog .
