No More Harassing Phone Calls! Do a Reverse Phone Look Up

Visitors: 155

Are you having a problem with a harassing caller? Or do you think you might be, but you're not quite sure what constitutes telephone harassment. In essence, it is when a person makes unwanted phone calls for the purpose of upsetting you through intimidation. They may say obscene things, make threats, remain silent, or even use heavy breathing to intimidate you and make you upset or frightened. Regardless of their tactic, you need to find out whose been bothering you, and take control of the situation to bring the calls to an end.

Understand, this does not mean you should make your own threats at the caller, or attempt to engage them in conversation. Usually, when you give a harasser your attention you make the situation worse, because often the goal of a phone stalker is to rattle you. Therefore, the best thing you can do at first is to make a note of the harasser's phone number and screen the calls. Make sure no one in your household answers the telephone when this number appears on call display, and let it go to your voice mail or answering machine.

The next thing you need to do is enter the phone number into a reverse phone lookup to identify and trace the nefarious individual. This is the best way to find out more about the caller. However, you need to keep in mind that if a person is calling from a cell phone or another private number, you will be required to pay to learn their name, as this info is not publicly available in the White Pages. That said, the fee is quite reasonable, so you may find it is well worth the cost to ease your mind.

Is there anything else I can do to stop harassing phone calls, aside from using a backwards phone trace? Yes. You can call your phone company, explain your situation, and ask them to block the number. You may also ask them if they can help you track the caller by putting a trap on your line. Additionally, if it becomes too frustrating, you can always change your phone number.

Last but not least, remember that though a reverse cell phone lookup can help you identify a caller, and even locate them, you need to immediately notify the police and file a police report if the person harassing you ever threatens you or anyone in your home with physical harm. Always take harassment seriously.
