Visitors: 228

If you don't have excellent grades last semester or if you don't have a fantastic med school entrance exam results, don't lose hope. You can still have the chance to get into the med school of your dreams. Schools know that there are circumstances in one's life that can greatly affect performance in exams. The admissions committee know this. Though exams matter in testing the aptitude of applicants, it is not the only yardstick that can be used to measure a person's intelligence. This is probably why medical school appliction essays are considered as another vital part of the application. The essay is a way for applicants to show their well-rounded personality. This is important because med school requires a student that is not only intelligent, but also emotionally mature. Aside from intelligence, a med school student needs to have the determination, passion, skills, confidence, and a personality that would make him or her endure the life of a med student. And these qualities can't be measured merely by exams, resumes, and grades. These can be better shown in the admission essay. So even if your scores are not that impressive, there's still a chance for you to turn the wheels to your favor.

Make your personal statement for med school attention-grabbing

If you failed to make a good impression to the admissions committee through your grades, make certain that they would remember you through your personal statement for med school. To do this, you need to write a very interesting essay. By interesting, your essay should have an engaging content. The introduction should be appealing, while the body should discuss relevant experiences that are relevant to your goals. You can also sprinkle some humor on your personal statement to make it more exciting to read. Just make sure that you strike humor with the right timing, otherwise, you will risk offending the admissions officers. Being overly creative is also a no-no. You have to be clear about the messages you want to convey in your essay.

Explain your poor performance in your personal statement

Your admission essay is your chance to explain to the admissions committee why your past performance is not that excellent. In explaining your reason, don't sound too desperate. You should also make sure that you are not making excuses for your past actions. Instead, just limit your explanation of your performance in a sentence or two. Avoid getting overly dramatic. Just make every thing brief and simple. Best of all, be honest in writing you essay. After all, the admissions personnel would surely have ways to see through your lies.

Although grades and exam results are very important factors in making it through med school, you don't have to despair. There are still ways to redeem yourself. As long as you have a valid reason for your poor performance in the past and as long as you state this reason well on your personal statement, you will surely have your fair chance to be a med school student.
