Industrial safety is a major concern in all the industries nowadays with special work culture being developed everywhere to ensure that the risk management and hazard perception is seriously dealt with. Industrial safety leadership requires proper training that makes the entire workforce accountable for the safety culture of any organization and the assessment of risk is taken at regular intervals to minimize any chance of a major hazard. Leadership in an organization plays a pivotal role in implementing and encouraging the safety norms to be strictly adhered to.

Initiative from the top management

An initiative towards industrial safety leadership should be taken from the company board level and top management should take action to make all the management staff accountable towards maintaining a safety culture of the organization. There should be at least one member of the top management who is well conversant with the safety norms being followed at the operational level and who can offer his valued advice when some new shifts in the production process takes place in the organization.

Accountability at all levels

The entire workforce should be made responsible in maintaining the safety culture and managers should take account of the safety parameters for the down level and ensure that each and every staff knows the risks and potential hazards involved in the organizational processes and be careful of avoiding any mistakes that can lead to an accident.

Safety measures to be strictly adhered to

Every organization has its own risk factors which are peculiar to itself and likewise the industries have set particular rules to avoid any major accident. It should be realized at all levels that the safety norms cannot be compromised under any circumstances and should be strictly adhered to. A special officer should be employed who is trained in industrial safety measures and who would supervise the entire safety culture practiced by the organization and ensures that all the safety measures are maintained by the entire workforce.

Appropriate resources should be ready at hand

To address the safety norms of both the human resources and the material, appropriate resources should be ready at hand with appropriate equipment like helmets, gloves and boots should be supplied at regular interval to the workforce who are at maximum risk and other safety indicators should be regularly monitored by the top management so that both the men and the machine is maintained free of hazards and damages.

A learning organization

We need to realize that the industrial safety measures are not a static concept, but a dynamic entity that changes its character developing with time. The organization should be in the process of perpetual learning from the governing bodies and other similar organizations about the industrial safety leadership. They should rectify themselves from the knowledge of mistakes and loopholes in the safety measures and the safety culture should be upgraded at regular intervals to ensure a hazard free working environment.

Above all, it should be realized by one and all that safety is of highest priority for any industry.
