An employers guide to keeping lone workers safe

The internet, email, video conferencing and applications such as instant messaging or Skype can all help you to have regular conversations about a staff member’s progress or health and wellbeing. Also, make sure that lone workers have access to the same information as your office-based staff. Including handbooks, training guidelines and other supporting materials.

In addition, it is wise to create a system that allows lone workers to report any incidents or safety concerns they may have. This can help you to address issues quickly but also to put measures in place so they don’t happen again or at all. In some cases, for employees who are visiting others at home or in isolation, it is recommended to implement a system that allows you to monitor their whereabouts and well-being. These include electronic alarms or systems that allow them to ‘check in’ or ‘check out’ of appointments.
