Where is Working Life Headed?

One should never have to be ashamed of making an honest living. At a time when employers are keen to find suitable workers, people have the opportunity to improve their quality of life by getting into suitable, sustainable employment. People need the opportunity to be properly trained knowing how to answer the phone politely, what questions not to ask coworkers (because they are too personal), how to keep track of what they need to do, etc.

The economy isn't hurting because workers and businesses are under-taxed. Raising taxes eliminates jobs, hurts small businesses, and delays economic recovery. Strategies like an expanded Earned Income Tax Credit that help all low-wage workers can make an enormous difference in the lives of people. Parents in low-wage jobs lack both the time and resources needed to fill their dual roles of worker and parent.

Workers made redundant from traditional manufacturing industries face even greater problems of job and location mobility with little or no alternative, appropriate and decently paid sources of comparable employment available in their counties.

Instead, the weak bargaining power of most workers means they are subject to pressures from three sides: declining jobs and hours, slower hourly wage growth, and faster price growth. This punishing combination is lowering their living standards and is surely behind the historically very low readings on consumer confidence.

Surely the best idea is that as a company grows within a region, it supplies jobs not only to its workers but, helps surrounding businesses grow. As these surrounding businesses grow more jobs are created. This may be a simplistic view of the job market and work force but people need to maintain a certain standard of living which isnt just about working all of the hours under the the sun but the ability to have a home life and social aspect of themselves.
