Whether you need office space long term, for a month, or just a short-term meeting space, finding space in New York City can be challenging. There are many factors to consider in choosing a spot, and location is just the beginning. Here are a few suggestions to get you started on Operation Office Space, New York.

What to Look For:

Location - This is one of the most important factors in choosing good office space. You'll want a central location, one that is easily accessible by clients but also an easy commute for employees. Plentiful parking is always a challenge in the city, but the last thing you want is for clients not to be able to find parking, so this should also be a high priority when choosing a location.

Square footage - Sufficient square footage is important for many reasons. A cramped environment makes it harder for employees to work, for one thing. Also, if your office feels cramped to you, it will appear twice as bad to a client who comes in for a meeting or a potential employee you are interviewing. It may be easier said than done in the city, but make sure you have enough room in the office for everyone to get their jobs done comfortably.

"Plugged in" - Especially if you are looking for short-term office space or meeting space, it is important to look for a venue that is equipped to meet all of your technological needs. For instance, multiple phone lines and reliable, secure Internet access are must-haves for virtually all businesses these days. If you do a lot of your business online, you literally are dependent on your Internet connection in order to make money, so this is extremely important to consider.

Professional and attractive - If you meet clients at your office, interview employees, or even if a customer just checks your address to see where you are located, your choice of office space can send a strong message about your business. A good rule of thumb is to always choose your office space with the assumption that someone is going to see it. Does it look tasteful and elegant while maintaining that professional sense of neutrality?

Fully equipped - If you are looking for short-term office space or meeting space, you will want to look for a place that is already furnished. If you aren't going to be there long, you may also want to make sure that services such as office cleaning are already in place as that will be one less thing for you to worry about. Other things you might want to look for include equipment such as copiers, projectors and fax machines.

Cost - Office space, New York City isn't cheap, but it is one of the busiest business hubs in the country. Of course, very rare is the company that can afford not to consider cost, but be sure to balance your concerns with the pros of a good location: shorter commutes, greater visibility and increased business.

Once you have your priorities set, you can start to look at what is available in NYC. Remember, as you search for office space New York there are a lot of great locations from which to run your business-you just have to find them.
