Would you believe that there are many serious gamers who make $3000 or more per month just by testing video games for game developing companies? Well, It's true, and you can do it too. In this article I will show you what it takes to land high paying video game tester jobs.

First, let's discuss why video game tester jobs are available. The reasoning is simple - a company is willing to pay money upfront to reputable testers in order to uncover bugs and problematic glitches. By fixing bugs before the game hits the market, they cut down on the amount of refunds and complaints they would have received from unsatisfied customers. In other words, they're willing and more than happy to pay you $300-$500 to test a video game in order to save themselves from a $10,000-$100,000 catastrophe.

If you're already playing video games 20 hours or more a week, then it's brain-dead obvious you should be considering a career in this field. However, in order to get a job as a video game tester, you must have certain qualifications.

First of all, you have to be highly skilled in the gaming platform for which you want test the games on. To be honest, it wouldn't hurt to get some experience with all the different gaming platforms. A lot of jobs will deal with computer games, so naturally this requires that you own a computer capable of running these different video games. The more powerful the computer, the better off you'll be. Don't worry if you not a big PC gamer, as there are plenty of companies that focus only on console video games; such as XBOX 360 or PS3 games.

In addition to the “equipment" requirements, you must also be able to meet deadlines on time, every time; plus, you have to have an excellent eye for detail. Patience is a key thing as well, as you will be required to explore many parts of the game numerous times in the search for bugs and glitches. Finally, above average communication/writing skills are required so that you can competently give feedback and an accurate analysis on the tested video game.

If you're capable of doing and/or obtaining all these things, then it's time to take it to the next level and start looking for a job as a video game tester. The best way to do this is to contact game developers and offer them your testing resume. Your game tester resume should have MANY compelling facts on why you'd be a great tester, as well as numerous references. The references will be hard to come up with at first, which is understandable; but with time and some decent networking, you shouldn't have to much trouble listing powerful & reliable references.

There are many different valuable resources that can help you land these jobs. Your job is to find and utilize them to propel yourself to a higher level of professional video game testing. If you can do that, well, the sky is the limit.
