Skills and Responsibilities of a Sales Assistant

A sales assistant is someone who is a great help to customers and makes their shopping experience easy and enjoyable. You can apply for positions in any type of retail outlets such as clothing retailers, department stores, or supermarkets. The duties and responsibilities are quite simple but they might drain you of energy as there are times that the store can get quite busy and get filled with a lot of people.

Among the many duties of the sales assistant includes catering to the customers and providing information that they ask of. You will also help them locate what they are looking for in your store and accept their payments be this cash or card. You will also provide information about whether or not a product is available or if there are stocks that will be arriving soon and providing details of products and their prices. This is just an overview of the many responsibilities that a sales assistant holds. The following will provide more specific details.

Customer relations. You probably know how important customers are in a business. It is them who keep the business alive. This is the key role of a sales assistant. As mentioned above, you will be catering to the needs and inquiries of customers including handling emails and phone calls. The sales assistant serves as the go-between for the company and the customer.

Schedule management. Because there are peak seasons and sales, stores can get really busy. Therefore, organization is a must. As a sales assistant, you will help arrange schedules by making travel arrangements, confirming engagements, and making reports.

Together with these responsibilities, they should also have the following skills and abilities:

Computer literacy. The computer is a very useful tool especially in a busy and big company. Stores use computers to keep data and manage them and your store should be no different. It is therefore important that you have skills in computer and be able to know how to make spreadsheet and create documents. Knowledge in database programs is also important.

Presentation. As a sales assistant , it will be one of your duties to create presentations and proposals to probable and actual customers. You therefore must have knowledge on creating slideshows and know how to utilize Microsoft PowerPoint to make things easier for you.

Flexibility. With business, anything can happen. The unpredictable will give you a surprise visit anytime. Thus, you need to be flexible as well as creative and resourceful to come up with solutions to possible problems. You need to know how to make quick decisions too.
