So you’re planning a vacation at a beach resort but have no idea what to expect? Trust me, you’re not alone. Before you book a beach resort, it’s crucial you understand what to expect and what not to expect. Otherwise, you could walk away absolutely dissatisfied.

Every beach resort differs in terms of quality, service, offerings, etc. However, there are a few standard features common to all. So to help you get a feel of what you’re getting into, here’s a breakdown of these standard features.

Food and Dining

If it is not an all-inclusive beach resort you won’t be able to eat anything and everything. It will create a dent in your pocket. Most beach resorts offer complimentary breakfast, just like regular resorts. All-day buffets as well as a la carte options will be available. Beach resorts will have a lot of options when it comes to snacks. Because snacking is what you do the moment you step out of the water or after a relaxing dip in the ocean or the swimming pool. Don’t go overboard or you will end up piling a few kilos after the vacation.

The cuisine

Now, the cuisine depends on where your beach resort is located. Every beach report will serve an array of the local specialities. For instance, if you are chilling out in Kerala, India, expect delicious Kerala cuisine like karimeen (pomfret) pollichathu, pork vindalu, idiyappan, appam and stew. to name a few. Many beach resorts will offer international themed restaurants, like Italian or Mediterranean, but don’t expect authentic dishes. If you want to experience a truly authentic meal and atmosphere then you should visit a local restaurant that caters to the locals.

Standards and Quality

The quality of food varies. For instance, if you have booked a 5-star resort the quality would be really great. You can’t expect such standards from a 3-star beach resort. It all depends on how much you are ready to spend. Most resorts will offer buffet option at lunch and dinner.

If you are on a vacation at a beach resort what better way to relax than to plop yourself down on the beach and sip on cocktails the entire week. At the beach resort the bars are typically open at 9 a. m. and stay open until about 12 midnight. But don’t spoil the vacation by having too many drinks. Otherwise you will miss out all the fun on the beach because you will be hung-over.

A visit to historical sites

If you are visiting a beach resort situated at a place which has historical significance, the hotel is likely to arrange group tours to specific sites. This will give you an opportunity to go and explore the place.

Activities and Entertainment

Most beach resorts will organise activities to keep you entertained. There will be pool-side activities and beach-side activities, such as volleyball and other games. At night or for dinner, there will be talent shows, music and dance numbers, live bands, game shows, etc.

Most beach resorts will have at least one gift shop with souvenirs, arts and crafts, clothing, snacks, etc.
