It generally starts with leaders who demonstrate that they are trustworthy and that they show respect for others in their everyday practices. Here are a few tips that every leader should consider in the way they manage their business, and specifically the way they supervise their employees.

  • Never allow the problems of starting a new business to interfere with the way you lead your employees.

  • Don’t allow problems to sit unaddressed. If there is something wrong with the performance of an employee, it is up to you to bring it to a successful conclusion.

  • Look for opportunities to provide positive feedback to your employees. Reinforcing good work will gain many times more in the long term than negative feedback.

  • Keep the lines of communication open at all times. There are a million challenges associated with being a business owner. None of those challenges should ever overshadow the focus you maintain on the positive relationship you have with your employees.

  • The best leaders are those who lead by being the perfect example of what they expect from others. If it is trust and respect that you desire, demonstrate that you are worthy of both.
