Thor Astoria RV Motor Home Review from Motor Home Specialist

Visitors: 515

The Thor Astoria RV offers three different floor plans that can accommodate five to eight people comfortably. This is good news for larger travel parties as it is a luxury Class A motor home at an affordable price. The spacious interior may get a bit crowded if eight people are staying in it, but it does mean they can all sleep in comfort.

The Astoria is built on a Freightliner XC chassis and uses a 360HP ISB-XT diesel engine. The engine and chassis combination is a reliable combination and it handles superbly in all situations. It is a rear diesel motor home and has triple or quad slides available. The slides really open out the interior and help provide a more spacious living area. Model 36MQ and model 40BQ both have a 16’ awning size while model 40KT boasts a 21’ awning. All provide ample shaded areas when parked up and will ensure all members of a travel party have enough space available so as not to feel closed in.

Fuel capacity for all models is 100 gallons while 126 lbs of LPG is available. Fresh water storage capacity is 91 gallons while black and grey water capacity is 51 gallons on all models. This is more than adequate for all travel party sizes. If traveling on longer trips then planning out stops to replenish fuel and water will be necessary, but if everything is topped up then it can sustain all travel party sizes for extended trips.

All models have a host of standard features that help affirm the high quality throughout the Astoria. The solid wood raised panel cabinet doors and solid surface kitchen counter top, range cover and sink covers all help achieve a stylish finish. Halogen lighting throughout should ensure all members of a travel party can find their own space to read a book comfortably if they wish or settle down to watch the 40" HD LCD TV in the living area.

The only model to provide bunk beds is model 40BQ. The bunk beds are a standard choice, but there is an option to select the wardrobe IPO bunk beds. This all helps boost the sleeping capacity up to eight people and may be ideal for families or groups of students. Model 40BQ is also the only model that has a Queen Bed as standard as the other two models boast a King Bed.

Overall, the Thor Astoria boasts a lot of luxury features as standard. If your travel party is likely to include six or more people, then model 40BQ might be the best solution. If it is unlikely to exceed five people, then it can be difficult to choose between each of the models.
