Thor Avanti RV Review from Motor Home Specialist

In some cases, the Avanti can achieve up to 70% fuel efficiency over other comparable models. This is achieved through the efficient aerodynamic exterior that helps reduce wind resistance and consequently improves MPG's. There are other factors that need to be taken into consideration when evaluating fuel efficiency, but in general, the Avanti performs very favorable.

There are two different floor plans available in the form of model 2806 and model 3106. The 2806 has an exterior length of 28’ 9" while the 3106 comes in at 31’ 10". Both models have a good 78" internal height and an awning size of 13’. The clever design manages to make the space appear larger, but all essential modern conveniences are included. Of particular note are the Italian appliances that add a stylish touch that simply work with the interior decoration.

The Freightliner MCL chassis and Cummins diesel engine complement each other well. It adds up to a smooth driving experience with a good balance between power and handling. The acceleration is audible as with all front engine diesels, but it soon settles down as you reach cruising speed. Passengers can then sit back and relax while drivers can enjoy a smooth drive. There is an option GPS system that can be fitted if necessary, but many drivers prefer to plan their own route so they can take in whatever sights take their fancy.

Both models have a sleeping capacity of four with a master bedroom area located towards the rear and a drop down located at the cockpit area. There are several drawers located throughout both models that should be able to securely store all the day-to-day essentials. For the non-essential items, exterior storage capacity is 67 cubic feet in model 2806 and 121.5 cubic feet in model 3106.

The total storage capacity for internal and external storage should be more than enough for most people. Naturally, traveling light is advisable as people frequently accumulate things as they travel between locations. The lighter you can travel the better it is for extracting even better fuel efficiency. Although the Thor Avanti is a fuel efficient model, it still uses more fuel when it is heavier and therefore it makes sense to travel light when possible. If a route is planned out, it is easy to figure out where to fill up on fuel and where to replenish water supplies. The Thor Avanti does have good fuel and water storage capacity, but some routes may not need full tanks at every stop.

Front engine diesel (FRED) motor homes are generally more fuel efficient than other types and the Thor Avanti is no exception.
