Have you seen the little smart cars?
They look like little toys. Don't they? But don't let that fool you.
Smart cars are a real engineering accomplishment and are even made by Mercedes. Sounding pretty Smart already huh?
Smart vehicles are built around a high strength steel roll cage and are engineered to evenly distribute impacts. Smart vehicles have achieved one of the highest crash ratings possible.
Sounding even Smarter don't you think? But wait. There's more. The Smart For-Two comes equipped with interchangeable body panels for color customization, and if thats not smart enough, how about being able to park it practically anywhere. This trendy little car was designed for crazy traffic in crowded European cities where maneuverability and parking are big problems. But they offer much more than the ability to park in tight spots:
- The smart fortwo pure coupe starts at around $12,000
- The top speed of the smart for two is 90 MPH
- 33 city/41 highway mpg
- The 2008 smart for two achieved the highest ratings for front and side crashworthiness
- equipped with a 3-cylinder, 1-liter gasoline engine
There is a very impressive YouTube video of a Smart ForTwo (as the name implies, its a two seater). The Smart car is traveling at 70 MPH and smashes into a concrete wall. Holy Crap! You owe it to yourself to watch it.
You would think that the little Smart Fortwo would be completely destroyed but due to its engineered ability to distribute any impact, the Smart Vehicle actually did pretty well in the 70 MPH collision. Don't get me wrong, I would definitely not want to be in that car when it crashed. The Smart Fortwo may look like a toy, but this thing is engineered to take a hit.
