Fuel economy is becoming more and more important as concern regarding the effects of global warming continue to escalate. Did you know that highway vehicles and driving account for 26% of the CO2 emissions which equals 1.7 billion each year. This is an outstanding statistic and one of the main reasons Americans as well as the American government is trying to find ways to reduce fuel emissions and use fuel sparingly to protect the planet. Now is the time to make decisions that are not only for our wallets but for the planet as well. Although we may not be the ones experiencing the major and most devastating affects of global warming, our children and next generations will be.

It is astonishing for most people to learn that each gallon of gasoline you burn you are also creating 20 pounds of CO2 which is then of course only contributing to the problem of global warming and doing nothing for the solution. With the average vehicle emitting 6.7 tons of CO2 per year you can see how this problem is only escalating and needs to be stopped before it is too late. Now it is time to discuss what we can do to decrease the use of fuel and hopefully decrease the expansion of the global warming crisis. If you are currently driving an old car, 10years or older then it may be time to consider re-investing your money into one of the new fuel efficient vehicles on the market today.

As the consumer the first thing you will notice is that these fuel efficient vehicles are more expensive than many other of the new vehicles on the market today. This is a choice which only you can make. This is where your priorities come in. If you are going to buy a new car wouldn't you feel better if you knew the car you were buying was not going to further harm the environment? When you think about vehicle shopping in this way it makes the extra few thousand that may be tacked onto your prospective fuel efficient car not such a big deal.

The Hybrid is one of the most popular cars created by Toyota when it comes to its fuel efficiency and this is one of the vehicles you should be closely looking at. If you are currently not in a position to purchase a new car, there are other ways you can encourage fuel efficiency within an older car as well. First you can begin to drive more efficiently. This means make a conscious effort to maintain your speed and increase your speed at a gradual level instead of pumping the gas and wasting more fuel than necessary. Aside from this step it is important to keep your car well maintained and functioning at its highest potential in order to control the highest efficiency when it comes to fuel consumption.

Carpooling is another option many commuters are beginning to take advantage of today. If there are several of you travelling to the same destination every morning and every afternoon why not save on fuel and drive together? If you are someone who commutes to work, you should begin to consider this fuel saving option as well. If you are not thinking of the environment at least think of saving on gas money because it is one in the same today.

Now that you have a better idea as to how much you are actually contributing to the global warming crisis each and every time you drive your car, it is time to do something about it. Take advantage of the suggestions listed above and if you are in the market for a new car, check out the Hybrid.
