Police Car Auction-What You Need To Know

A Police Car Auction is a great place to find a good deal. Usually most of the cars and trucks that are found there have been impounded due to some drug bust or police raid. So, keeping that in mind you will probably be able to find some good deals but remember these cars are probably not without mechanical problems.

Make sure that when you buy a car at a police car auction, like any auction, you inspect the car first. A good place to start is to hire a mechanic to go with you to check out the car before you buy. If you're unable to hire a mechanic, ask a mechanically inclined friend to come along if you don't know how to inspect the car yourself.

Look at the under carriage and the motor to see if there are any obvious mechanical problems. Always allow additional time to inspect the body of the car also because dents and rust can easily be hidden with bondo or body filler. The police don't indent to deceive you but they also don't inspect every car for mechanical problems. It's buyer beware, you must inspect the car yourself.

One other import point, some of these cars could have or might have been in the New Orleans flood. Make sure you don't see any mold or mildew and ask the police what they know about the car. A good place to check on the history or a car is to go to http://carfax.com. They can give you a detailed report of what accidents your car has been in and who the previous owners were.

As like anything, you can find a great deal at a police car auction but make sure you do your homework first. Just because the police are having the auction doesn't mean that the car will run perfect forever. Check it out before you go and you will be happy that you saved yourself thousands of dollars.
