Significance and Importance of Photographs

The Importance and significance of photographs are very well known to many people. Photographs are the actual proof that something has happened and it was witnessed by the photographer. Pictures are the best way to keep any kind of memories alive and fresh. Looking at an old picture can bring back many treasured memories. It is also a useful tool which helps in showing an individual something which they have not witnessed in person. It is a good means of communication, it helps you to trace out and remember your family lineage. So, these valuable treasures of our lives which help us to teach histories to our children should be preserved and protected well.

These valuable treasures can be easily damaged by natural and man made disasters that deteriorates the quality and look of these pictures. Most of the common damages which photographs undergo are damage due to dust and wind, fading of the colors, scratches in the pictures, torn edges and many more. When we want to restore the photos to its former glory, we immediately look for the services which help us to achieve that. Photo Restoration is an image manipulation technique that helps to restore old or new photos which have suffered damages.

Photo Restoration in brief

Photo Restoration is an art which has to be learnt. Not everyone can do it, since it involves the use of technology as well as experience in analyzing the pictures and using the right technique based on the type of deterioration. Photo Restoration also helps in Image improvisation. Some of the techniques that are used in photo restoration include changing the black and white photos into colored ones, merging, combining of two or more photos, removing scratches, dust, tears, and blemishes, and correcting fades and stains.

The two major divisions in Photo restoration is Electronic Restoration and Physical Restoration.

• Physical Restoration – The damages in the printed photographs are restored by this type of restoration. This is the most oldest and famous method of restoration mostly done by professional experts. The two types of physical restoration are Chemical Restoration and Air Brush Restoration.

• Electronic Restoration – This type of restoration is mainly done by the use of software after scanning the pictures and storing the pictures into the computers. Digital Photo restoration is very cheap and can be quickly done. Electronic restoration offers a bunch of benefits over physical restoration methods and is being highly preferred among photography enthusiasts.

In many situations we decide to restore the old family pictures and many other pictures for sentimental value and for its significance. There are also certain limitations related to what extent the photos can be restored. For instance, it may not always be possible to restore photographs that have several pieces missing, are too blurred, or are totally out of focus - all these damages cannot be restored. Therefore, identify the damages and changes at an early stage to make good use of this wonderful technology to give a new lease of life to the valuable pictures.
