To start playing guitar online is a wonderful experience and there are a couple of points to take into account when starting to play guitar, very often are obvious facts, but these basic facts can make a great difference at the beginning and most beginners take them for granted. The truth is that many new guitar players stop learning within the first 6 weeks because they feel frustrated, and I want to help you to avoid that by giving you exlusive tips on how to start playing guitar. There is a Buddhist saying that I like a lot that says: “when the student is ready, the master appears”, now, I’m not here to tell you that I´m the elder that knows it all, but based on my own experience as a guitarist and as a guitar teacher I want to point out a few things that will be helpful on this journey of becoming a musician. Let me go ahead and start by telling you the three things that you need to do to master the guitar the easy and fun way: 1. Purchase your own guitar. This is really crucial because you are going to start creating a sense of responsibility; I’m saying this because if you decide to start playing with someone else’s guitar, you won’t take it as seriously as if it was your own guitar, because it is not yours in the first place. So, the at the very beginning you need to get your own guitar. 2. Make time to practice. Now, this might seem pretty obvious, but the truth is that many beginners fail because they don´t plan ahead time to practice every day, specifically the first couple of weeks, which is the moment your hands need to get accustomed to the strings and for you to feel comfortable with your instrument. 3. Get a guitar lessons online. For this point, I want to share with you a small story. When I was about thirteen years old a cousin of mine taught me how to play basic guitar, and that’s all I got from him, so I spent almost a year playing the same songs because I never followed a course. Then I stepped up to improve my guitar playing, so I took classes with a private tutor, and those classes were very expensive by the way, and I noticed how much I had been missing from the guitar. Ok, now that that is out of my chest let me point out the main three things you must not do when learning guitar: 1. Do not start with a damaged guitar. Try to get a decent guitar to learn to play, the reason this is a smart thing to do is because your hearing will get used to the sound of that instrument, and you might believe that the way you play it is the right way it should sound. 2. Do not buy get an electric guitar first. You will feel pain in your fingers than if you start playing on an acoustic guitar. Playing an electric guitar could lead you to frustration and that is exactly what we are trying to stay away from. 3. Leaving your guitar in a dusty corner. It’s ok to skip one day of playing, we all have many things to do every day, but do not make this a habit, and otherwise you’ll find yourself playing the same song, over and over again. I tell you that because it happened to me. I encourage you to download an easy to follow course online and to practice as often as you can, you will see that playing guitar is a very fun hobby and relaxing too. I hope you find this article useful and I wish you the best. Good luck and happy learning.
