Changing guitar strings is as important as turning your guitar. You have to check the strings regularly to see if anyone of them is missing or worn. Old guitar strings are hard to play and make your guitar out-of-tune quickly. Your fingers will always get hurt. But putting new strings on your guitar will help you produce brighter and greater guitar sound with ease.

So now let us forget how to play guitar but look at how often to change the strings. The ideal plan is, of course, to change them every time before playing the guitar. The reason is that old strings easily break. You will not know when they break but you certainly do not want it happens when you are playing great songs in front of a large group of fans.

If you are not this kind of big guitar player and you just play or learn guitar for fun only, changing the strings every two weeks is still okay. For some younger guitar learners who do not have enough budget to purchase so many strings, I suggest you changing the strings at least once a month. I would say this is the bottom line.

Guitar strings are available at all music stores. Selecting the strings for your guitar is simple. Acoustic guitar requires acoustic guitar strings. You need to buy nylon strings or classical guitar strings for your classical guitar. Electric guitar strings are for electric guitar and bass guitar needs bass guitar strings. If you are not sure which to buy, just ask the salespeople to recommend one to you.

The thickness of the guitar strings is also one concern. The thicker they are, the harder you play. But the tone is better. A medium size of strings will be suitable for guitar beginners. Thinner strings can also produce great guitar music. With more practice and experience, you can try the thicker strings later. It ensures that you will not get frustrated with the thicker ones.

You need to have some accessories to help you change the strings, such as a soft cloth, pliers and a string winder. Then place your guitar on the floor or a table.

Let us change the string. You will want to change the 6th string (the thickest one) first so tweak the tuning peg to loosen the string. When it is completely loosened, take it out of the tuning peg and remove the whole string from the bridge (at the other side of the guitar) as well. You may need to use the pliers to do it. And then use the soft cloth to wipe the fret board before putting up a new string.

After cleaning that, find out the thickest string with the ball from the package and insert it into the hole of the bridge. Make sure the ball slips in place. Then slide the string to the neck and put an inch of it into the peg. Crimp the string and use a string winder to tweak the peg counterclockwise in order to tighten the string.

The final step is to cut the excess string. Do not cut too much. The remaining extra string will help you to get deeper tone. That is the whole process and now you can change the other five strings as well.

Some people may want to remove all the strings at once. This method is good as you can to clean the fret board easily. But the down side is that because you loosen all the strings, the tension of the neck is also loosened. It may affect the sound of your guitar.

You may need some practice for changing guitar strings. It may not be easy at the beginning. But be optimistic. You will find it easy at the end.
